Junior Padel Rackets

A junior padel racket is perfect for starting out in this sport. Each child has their own personality and way of playing. With the help of these rackets, the chances of getting them to adapt quickly to their dynamics are increased. The decision will be much less risky when going with trusted brands, such as Wilson, Nox or Bullpadel. All of them are light and adapted to young players. The design does not usually pose a problem, since all kinds of striking colours and drawings are available, highly recommended for children.

How to choose the perfect junior padel racket

Although we speak generically of junior padel rackets, the truth is that it is a more varied category than it may seem at first glance. Buying a racket for a four-year-old is not the same as buying one for a ten-year-old. So, the main categories are:

  • Children under six years of age. The weight of the rackets must not exceed 280 grams. What’s more, it must be moderately thick, to simplify the strike and for the user to gradually get used to the dynamics of the racket. It is also very important that they are made with shock absorbing technology, to reduce the risk of injury, especially at such a young age. The type of racket that is far and away the most suitable for this group is the control racket.
  • From six to ten years of age. The model may be larger, both in terms of size and weight, because kids are bigger at this age. It is recommended to opt for versatile rackets, as they maintain high levels of control and allow the child to start hitting more complex and powerful shots.
  • From ten to twelve years of age. This is the stage prior to junior and youth categories. Therefore, the rackets may already be very similar to those of adults, including the use of materials designed to improve the spin, such as Eva rubber. In fact, models with a thickness of 38 millimeters can be used. However, light rackets are still recommended, although the weight can be increased to 320 or 330 grams.

It should be clarified that there is no one-size-fits-all formula and the choice of the racket should always respond to the characteristics of the child.

Differences between junior and adult padel rackets

Among the most important are:

  • Junior padel rackets usually weigh between 270 to 340 grams. Adult padel rackets are heavier and easily exceed 345 grams.
  • The thickness of children's rackets usually ranges between 32 and 36 millimeters, whereas that of adult padel rackets frequently exceeds 38 millimeters.
  • The grip on junior rackets is usually thinner than that on adult rackets. In fact, several overgrips are usually necessary for a better fit to the hand.
  • Children's rackets tend to incorporate softer materials to make them easier to use.

These are, in general terms, the most relevant differences between a junior padel racket and an adult padel racket.
